We Are Detroit’s Premier Floral Design Firm

Thrifty Florist is a family owned and operated floral design firm. Our firm is one of the premier florists in the Southfield and Detroit area. The first store was started on the Westside of Detroit at the corner of Grand River and Telegraph Road. We started by bringing in flowers by the truckload and selling them at unbeatable prices. We eliminated the middleman and passed the savings on to our customers. When we bypassed the middleman, we found that we were selling fresher flowers than other florists in town; and much to our surprise, our flowers were even fresher than the local wholesalers in town. Customers, to this day, come in and comment about the freshness.

Thrifty Florist has been voted Best Local Florist on numerous occasions. We offer the best selection of beautiful, farm fresh flowers in Detroit, Michigan. Thrifty Florist is a second generation, family owned and operated floral design firm. The Rea family opened our first floral design center in 1989. We currently operate sixteen floral design centers, including our Detroit, Michigan Flower Shop location.

Our firm also provides nationwide same day flower delivery service for customers outside of the Detroit area. We employ an award-winning team of floral designers. Giving flowers to special people for Valentine's Day has been very popular for centuries. To clarify, this tradition actually began in the 1700s. Thrifty Florist has created beautiful and fresh Valentine's Flower Bouquets. There are numerous options for flower varieties. Roses and Chocolate are not the only favorites. For instance, here are some additional choices of flowers that are popular for Valentine's Day.   Lilies These lovely flowers have a great fragrance that most people love. Subsequently, there are numerous varieties of Lilies. Candidum or Madonna Lilie is pure white and one of the most popular. However, they are a difficult plant for growers as the soil has to be neutral to alkaline. Martagon referred to as Turk's cap lilies, have purple to pink petals. The plant appears to be very delicate. However, is actually quite hardy. Regale lilies have purple to pink petals with a slight amount of yellow on the inside of the flower. Similarly, they are one of the easiest lilies to grow. Album is another of the white variety. In addition, this flower has some yellowish green on the petals. Pink Perfection Group is a purple and pink trumpet lily. Similarly, to the Regale variety, it is easy to grow. Lankon is one of the favorite varieties due to its unique coloring. In addition, the white petals are spattered with a deep purple. Tulips A great choice for a bouquet, Tulips are very fresh and continue to grow after they are cut. That is to say, this makes them perfect for a vase. You have to rotate the arrangement as the flowers tend to grow toward the light. Similarly, to other flower groups, there are several different types of Tulips. Multiheaded has 2-5 flower heads per stem. Gold is one of the first colors associated with Christmas. It symbolizes royalty as it was one of the three gifts of the Wise Men. Red symbolizes the blood of Jesus shed during crucifixion. In 1839, a Lutheran priest came up with the idea to use a wagon wheel to symbolize the approach of Christmas. Using the wheel he would use red and white candles to reflect the Advent season. In the Roman Catholic Church, the season of Advent is four Sundays in December each one taking on a different theme: On the First Sunday, the church looks forward to the Second Coming of Christ. On the Second Sunday, the church reviews the message that John the Baptist preached. His message was for Christians to "prepare the way of the Lord". On the Third Sunday, which is referred to as Gaudete Sunday, the theme is again surrounding the joy Christians have by the coming of the Saviour. On the Fourth Sunday, the theme is about Mary and Joseph and how the events led up to the birth of Jesus.
