Thrifty Florist
Sixteen Floral Design Centers To Serve You
Thrifty Florist is a family owned and operated floral design firm. Since starting business in 1989, Thrifty Florist has blossomed under the direction of CEO and Owner, Chris Rea, to include 16 locations throughout metro Detroit and surrounding areas. It is Michigan’s largest retail florist and one of the nations leading retailers of flowers and related floral gifts.
We offer beautiful, farm fresh flowers, plants and occasion themed gifts. Our floral design team is one of the best in the state of Michigan. We offer free floral consultations for customers seeking to have our team handle floral design and decorating for their home or office.
The first store was started on the Westside of Detroit at the corner of Grand River and Telegraph Road. We started by bringing in flowers by the truckload and selling them at unbeatable prices. We eliminated the middleman and passed the savings on to our customers.
When we bypassed the middleman, we found that we were selling fresher flowers than other florists in town; and much to our surprise, our flowers were even fresher than the local wholesalers in town. Customers, to this day, come in and comment about the freshness.
Our stores are customer-focused and customer-friendly. We offer quality products at affordable prices situated in convenient locations at major intersections across the Metro area. Accessibility and convenience are important to Thrifty customers, that is why our stores are open before rush hour until bedtime; even on most major holidays, including Christmas.

House Plants Benefits and Beauty
Many studies have been conducted in recent years regarding the effects Houseplants have on human physical and mental well being. Many of these studies have reported that houseplants provide many health benefits in the home. One study in 2009 conducted by the University of Technology in Sydney Australia, found that it was highly probable houseplants absorbed numerous unhealthy toxins floating in the air. The science behind how the plants are able to do this is related to their biological processes.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reported that as many as 8 percent of Americans suffer from allergies. Houseplants do not release much if any pollen and in fact act as natural filters to collect allergens and dust. Of course regularly scheduled cleaning of the plants is necessary to remove any build up.
You know that wonderful fresh smell of the plants, flowers and trees when you go for a stroll outdoors? Houseplants from Thrifty Florist will bring that same atmosphere inside your home. Plants produce oxygen through photosynthesis which is what we breath to survive. They also act as sponges to simply gather all of the bad pollutants in the air. Most of us do not think about pollutants in our homes but they are present. Things like carpet, paint and furniture emit toxins.
Of course using indoor plants in the domestic home is not the only use, hospitals and office buildings are great places for plants also. Researchers at Kansas State University reported studies that show patients recover quicker when their hospital rooms have plants in them. In addition, these patients tend to have lower heart rates, blood pressure, less fatigue and anxiety. Consequently the patients are released from the hospitals sooner.
Dutch, Norwegian and English researchers have found evidence in their studies that the overall health of individuals in office buildings and classrooms is also improved by the presence of plants. Some of the benefits they found are decreases in fatigue, colds, headaches, coughs, sore throats and flu like symptoms. These illnesses fell by as much as 60 percent in buildings that had plants. Classroom attentiveness increased by a whooping 70 percent.
Plus all of the countless health benefits plants offer, they also create wonderful beauty to any home. There are numerous uses for indoor plants. Depending on the areas to be decorated, the use of different plants can create a more uniform and warm feel. There are different types of plants that work for living, dining, bathroom and bedroom use. For example if you need to enhance the beauty and freshness of your bathroom(s), some of the best plants to use are the Bird’s Nest Fern, English Ivy, Orchid or Peace Lily.
The addition of a lovely plant from Thrifty Florist to your home décor can make the long Winter days much more enjoyable and healthier!
