History of Warren Michigan
Warren was first settled in 1830 by European immigrants, primarily German, Dutch, and Irish. The area was originally called Beebe’s Corners after the local tavern owner who also served as the first postmaster. In 1837, the name was changed to Aba Township before finally being named Warren in 1838 after General Joseph Warren who fought in the American Revolutionary War.
In its early years, Warren was primarily an agricultural community with farms producing wheat, corn, and oats. However, with the arrival of the railroad in 1850, the town began to grow as a transportation hub for goods and services. The population boomed in the late 19th century with the development of manufacturing industries such as lumber mills, iron foundries, and textile factories.
